Oculus @ GDC 2018

GDC is Oculus’ moment to share their vision of innovation, announce new products, and engage one-on-one with their community of video game developers and partners. They attend GDC to demonstrate their commitment to the developer community in creating the best possible VR product and to position VR, as well as the Oculus ecosystem, as the preferred platform on which to develop new video game content.

 

The Shop @ Show Ready was tasked with creating a space that would educate & engage developers, showcase the power of VR, & demonstrate Oculus’ commitment to the video game community. The 60’x100′ double deck exhibit we fabricated brought the Oculus brand to life through the use of contemporary materials and finishes in a way that communicated the feel and environment of an energetic tech campus complete with trees, communal seating areas, gathering spaces, and open-air balconies.

 

The main structure was a 3,571 SQ FT proprietary custom double-deck that utilized C Channels and V Brackets welded to joists in place of the standard I-Beam design. This ultra lightweight deck not only looked incredible, but allowed our I&D team to complete set-up in half the time it would have taken with another double-deck while reducing drayage costs as well.

 

The Shop fabricated 10 private meeting rooms to showcase confidential prototype VR Technology. The ground level featured 7 demo areas across 2,000 SQ FT with 230 SQ FT allocated for queuing, a 1,100 SQ FT open-air lounge with full-size trees, and a 380 SQ FT stage and seating area for delivering in-depth presentations. Rather than create the typical product demo stations to showcase Oculus Go, the world’s first affordably priced standalone VR Headset, we created a product bar where large groups of attendees could interact with the product, each other, and product specialists. Instead of creating a solid exterior meant to prevent attendees on the outside of the exhibit from seeing what was taking place on the inside, we designed a transparent glass exterior and open lounge space filled with trees that beckoned guests inward to explore, recharge, and network.

 

The Campus Oculus strategy developed by FG|PG created a truly unique experience for the developer community at GDC. By focusing on community and turning the Oculus exhibit into a destination, it facilitated meaningful engagement between game developers and the Oculus team. The attention to detail and high-quality fabrication established Oculus as the premier platform for VR game development with a long-term commitment to the overall developer community. In addition to being an award-winning exhibit, Campus Oculus at GDC is a great example of how The Shop partners with brands and agencies alike to fabricate exhibits that deliver on business objectives.

The Show Ready team was tasked with fabricating a re-design look for the existing double deck Oculus booth for this year’s GDC.  Show Ready transformed the  60 x 100  booth into an open stylized home environment featuring product display and demo space downstairs with meeting and demo rooms upstairs; plus an adjacent 30 x 40 space for industry VIPs, key influencers and Executives. The fabrication project combined several of our in-house services including: engineering, carpentry, lots of metalwork and large format graphics. Here’s a look of the before and after.
