Summary:

Shop Carpentry Lead is distinguished from Carpenter by its responsibility for providing lead work direction, guidance, and training to carpenters and other designated employees and performing the full range of carpenter duties.

Essential Functions:

Carpentry

  • Prepare the layout of the project
  • Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions
  • Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, metal, plywood, MDF, laminate, acrylic, etc
  • Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, routers, and sanders to build, repair, and erect structures
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives
  • Work on top of stilts, ladders, scissor forklifts, and the top beams of structures
  • Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure that everything is level and secure
  • Work with prefabricated buildings
  • Build or repair stairs, mantles, and furniture
  • Install materials and molding
  • Erect scaffolding
  • Replace panes of glass, tiles, and doors
  • Install partitions, doors, and windows
  • Move and install machinery
  • Meet project standards and deadlines is a must
  • Work with a team of builders to construct assigned projects from start to completion
  • Interpret and work from plans and fabrication drawings
  • Regulate material usage to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency on the projects
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Take the lead and work independently on projects

Supervisory

  • Study the blueprints to plan the project
  • Must check the inventory of materials for each project
  • Lead the projects from beginning to finish
  • Follow up with carpenters daily for project status
  • Manage and maintain a consistent workflow
  • Lead off-site installations and dismantles 
  • Ensure safety practices during projects
  • Communicate all shop matters with the Shop Foreman promptly as needed
  • Must coach and train carpenters/helpers
  • Manage timecards weekly
  • Must be familiar with all open job numbers and projects
  • Must close the shop and complete a walkthrough at the end of the day
  • Must open the shop as needed
  • Monitor and ensure all shop is meeting quality standards
  • Maintain a positive workplace attitude

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience in finish carpentry in Event and Trade Show industry required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Additional 1+ years’ experience in rough carpentry preferred
  • Experience with: 
    • Heavy machinery 
    • Forklift
    • Hand tools 
    • Safety practices
    • Reading blueprints
    • Climbing on ladders 
    • Carrying at least 80 pounds 
    • Lumber grades and countertop materials
    • Management
    • Job costing

Location:

We are looking for someone who can work out of our Huntington Beach, CA, Headquarters.
