Show Ready Enjoy illinois at IPW

The Ask

The Illinois Office of Tourism came to IPW with an ambitious goal: move beyond the expected and create something that felt genuinely immersive. Previous iterations of the Illinois presence leaned on familiar Route 66 iconography. This time, the brief called for a modern, welcoming statement that would resonate with an international audience of travel buyers and position Illinois as a dynamic, multidimensional destination.

The design needed to be two things in one: First, it really needed to make an immediate visual impression on a packed show floor. Second, the space had to function as a working business hub, capable of supporting 40 or more pre-scheduled appointments per day across six semi-private meeting spaces, while also housing over two dozen partner booths representing cities and attractions from across the state.

The Solution

Show Ready partnered with FGPG to design and build a 40x50-foot island exhibit anchored by an internally lit entry tunnel and a large-scale dimensional logo. Together, we created that defining "wow factor” and then some.

Entry and Arrival

First impressions matter, especially when you’re onstage at the largest global travel trade show. The main entrance featured a 12-foot-high illuminated archway finished with LED lighting, wrapping the entire interior perimeter. For a state synonymous with world-class architecture, leaning into something wholly contemporary and bold was the only move. It worked.

Canopy and Overhead Architecture

Inside, large U-shaped canopies with slatted ‘L’ structures carved the space into distinct zones that allowed for open sightlines while avoiding boxing anyone in. This allowed for a more private feeling while simultaneously working in an open-air space. It became an environment that made people want to linger rather than pass through.

Meeting and Hospitality Infrastructure

Six semi-private meeting spaces, each configured for up to four people, were distributed through the booth footprint and designed to support the IOT's high-volume appointment schedule. A lounge area with casual soft seating provided overflow space for less formal conversations and created a warmer, more relaxed counterpoint to the meeting rooms.

Front-of-house infrastructure included an 8-foot reception and check-in counter and a 6-foot hospitality and beverage counter, both finished in wood-look laminates with LED toe-kick lighting, keeping the counters visually grounded and on-brand without competing with the larger architectural elements around them.

Technology Integration

A brand ID tower integrated a 98-inch Samsung monitor powered by a BrightSign LS media player, providing a dedicated content moment within the main booth for destination storytelling, partner spotlights, and Illinois tourism programming throughout the show.

Graphics

High-resolution SEG fabric graphics and printed vinyl accents ran across the full booth environment, including storage wall exteriors, canopy faces, and partner-facing surfaces. The graphic system was designed to create visual cohesion across the entire footprint, ensuring the Illinois presence read as one unified environment rather than a main booth surrounded by disconnected partners.

Partner Booth Program

Show Ready fabricated and managed 26 vendor partner booths across 10x10, 10x20, and 10x30 configurations. Each used the consistent beMatrix framing system with backlit SEG fabric graphics and custom headers, presenting Illinois's regional tourism partners as a coordinated ecosystem within the larger state presence. The modular approach allowed each partner to maintain their own identity while remaining clearly part of the Illinois family.

Results

The Enjoy Illinois booth delivered on its core objectives at every level.

The internally lit tunnel and dimensional logo created the arrival moment the IOT had asked for, generating consistent foot traffic and giving attendees a clear reason to stop, enter, and engage. The shift away from Route 66 iconography toward a more contemporary, welcoming design language resonated with the international audience IPW attracts, where cultural shorthand doesn't always translate.

The meeting infrastructure supported a full schedule of prearranged business appointments throughout the show, with six rooms running simultaneously and the lounge absorbing overflow without disrupting the primary meeting flow. The hospitality counters kept staff operations smooth and front-of-house interactions warm across all three show days.

The 26 partner booths were installed and managed as a single coordinated program, creating brand continuity across the full Illinois footprint and giving regional partners a polished, professional presence they could not have achieved independently.

The modular construction approach, rooted in the beMatrix system across both the main exhibit and the partner program, delivered repeatable quality at scale and positioned the system for future use across subsequent shows.

Why It Matters

The Enjoy Illinois presence at IPW is a strong example of what happens when immersive design and functional planning are treated as one and the same. The entry tunnel wasn't decorated. The dimensional logo wasn't signage. They were tools for creating attention, establishing identity, and giving 40-plus daily appointments a space worth arriving at.

For destination marketers competing on a global stage, the booth is the destination's first impression. Show Ready builds those impressions with intention.
