Inside Tesla

The Ask

Tesla doesn't operate like a traditional automotive brand — and their built environments reflect that. The physical spaces Tesla creates are extensions of the brand's identity as much as its products are, and a museum exhibition exploring the company's broader technological vision demanded an environment built to that same standard.

That's the scope Show Ready took on at the Petersen Automotive Museum: a museum-grade scenic build inside one of the world's premier automotive institutions.

The Exhibition

When the Petersen Automotive Museum opened "Inside Tesla: Supercharging the Electric Revolution" in November 2022, it was billed as the most comprehensive gathering of Tesla products ever assembled — early prototypes, rarely seen concepts, and record-breaking production vehicles, presented alongside displays covering the company's energy ecosystem, manufacturing automation, and ventures beyond the automobile. Housed in the Mullin Family Grand Salon on the museum's first floor, the exhibition ran for nearly two years, extended well beyond its originally scheduled close.

An exhibition of that scope needs an environment built to match it — and that's where Show Ready came in.

The Build

Show Ready fabricated a multi-element installation inside the Petersen's exhibition space, including a crash test wall, car rises with integrated display cases, and a detailed scale model of a Hyperloop pod.

The crash test wall was a fabrication challenge in its own right — a scenic element that needed to read as authentically impacted while meeting the structural and safety standards of a public museum environment. The car rises elevated vehicles while integrating display case infrastructure cleanly into the base, giving visitors both a visual moment and a product education touchpoint at the same time.

Precisely crafted graphics throughout the exhibit reinforced Tesla's brand identity and gave the installation the visual coherence expected of a Petersen Automotive Museum installation. Every element — structural, scenic, and graphic — was fabricated and installed by Show Ready's in-house team.

Results

The Petersen build put Show Ready's fabrication inside one of the most-covered automotive exhibitions of its era — a nearly two-year run that presented Tesla's technological vision beyond the vehicle itself, with the crash test wall and Hyperloop pod model among the environment's defining scenic elements. Every structural, scenic, and graphic element held to museum standard for the full run of the exhibition.

Why It Matters

Tesla builds a different kind of automotive brand — and the fabrication that supports it has to keep up. A museum environment that conveys technological ambition, built to the standard of a landmark exhibition, holding up under nearly two years of public traffic at one of the world's premier automotive museums.
